We members here at eons well remember this country's last Great Recession, back in the late seventies and early eighties. We lived through it. We were at that time, a nation in recession.

In 2001, we had what I call a bit of a recession, for a short time. Remember when the prime lending rate hit 21%, and the price of energy and gas reached levels we had never in our lives seen before? Breath holding times my friends.

Although our economic experts are telling us we are NOT in a national recession, at this time, nor is one heading our way, I believe the fact that so many Americans are in a personal recession is a tip-off that as a nation, we're in trouble.

The housing fiasco, the sub-prime mortgage debacle, the rising gas and energy prices, the fact that wages are not keeping up with the rising cost of living, the number of Americans looking for work; all these facts right there in front of us, tell me we had all better cinch those belts a little tighter, my friends. We mature ones have seen much of this before, and we all know where it can lead.
