Bookoholics

I'd like to start a group for people who, like me, enjoy reading....a lot! I mostly prefer fiction, mysteries are a big favorite... I also like anything Anne Tyler writes... it might be fun to talk about what we've read and make recommendations of books we like....

BOOKWRM UP-DATE

I just spoke with Bookwrm's husband. She came through the surgery fine, tubes and wires now removed and she's been moved to a regular hospital room. A very small section of her upper left lung was removed and two lymph nodes. Her thoracic surgeon told them he feels there is no malignancy. Complete biopsy report may take a couple weeks. Hopefully she will be discharged to home by Monday. She's resting comfortably. Hubby will relay to bookwrm our concern and that she continues to be in our thoughts and prayers.

Edgar Sawtelle

By David Wroblewski I absolutly loved this book. It starts off a little slow but once it gets moving, it's hard to put down.

Off Season/Anne Siddons

I'm half way through this and it is a wonderful book - very sad, too - but great characters! I really think it's the best one I have read and I'm trying to slow down in reading it - so I can enjoy the characters longer! I'm right in the middle of it and I don't see how she can possibly keep up this pace - You'll know what I mean when you read it! If it's on your list you won't regret it and if it's not on your list - think about putting it on! It's that good!

Stephen White

I have been gone for several months, we went to Alaska. While there, I discovered Stephen White and read everything I could get my hands on.

This week, we were passing through Elkhart, PA, and I found a little bookstore called The Bookworm. I was able to purchase 5 of the Lincoln Rhyme series by Jeffrey Deaver. So, I will read these until I can get more White novels.

Hope all of you had a GREAT summer.

Barefoot/Elin Hilderbrand

This is the first time I have read any of her books and this one is very good! It's a good summer read - about 3 women/plus husbands/lovers/cancer - beach house/babies - all of it woven together and very good! Last week I went to town and forgot to go the library - in the old days (before the price of gas) I would just have turned around and gone to the library - but no more! Anyway, I got to the library yesterday and picked up three books "on the just in shelf" - one was Barefoot (has anyone else read it? and the other two are "Being Elizabeth" (Barbara Taylor Bradford) and then "Off Season" (Anne Rivers Siddons) so I am set for the weekend - I'm also listening to "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" - I read that years ago, but listening to it is VERY enjoyable - probably better than reading it - I'm a rapid reader and I - as such - often just skim pages! Listening is much more intense! The reader of this book is excellent - I may even listen to it again because it is so good! I'm headed to South Carolina again for nearly a month so I'll get a lot of listening in!

Kathy Reichs

This evening my friend invited me to join her at a book signing by Kathy Reichs for her new book "Devil Bones". Some of you might not know that Kathy's books are the basis for the show "Bones". She was a very entertaining speaker, giving insight into both her job as a forensic anthropologist and as an author as well as a little behind the scenes info on the TV show. I have not read any of her books, but she made them sound so interesting that I plan to pick some up at my next bookstore visit. All of her books - new and old - were gone tonight!!!

Novels About the Celts

In another thread, BookGoddess asked for recommendations of novels about the early Celts. I love these, and there are lots! See the first reply for a few suggestions.
