THANKS(for)GIVING by TadBartimus

Posted 9 months ago

Most of us are kind and generous if we’re expected to be. When we pass a Salvation Army bucket we put in 10 bucks. If a neighbor is sick we take a casserole and a card. We pick through the pantry to find canned goods for the food bank, contribute to Toys for Tots, and pony up for the collection plate.

But usually, somewhere in the back of our minds, we keep score: We had them for Thanksgiving last year, now it’s their turn; that scarf she gave me for Christmas cost about $50 so I’ll get her this $49.95 blender; it took him a month to return the hedge trimmer so next time he wants to borrow...

No One Has Been Here All Year,Tad.

Holiday House with all it's announcements for Thanksgiving, the little blond girl at
family dinner table, and Down Home Cooking have taken up the majority of what
would be a lifer writer Group I think as well as where the Eons editor would choose
to show his stuff if it weren't for some one to need to play Casey Stengel in the
light of Gehrig,DeMaggio,Ruth and Berraisms that came out of last Fall's plethora
of scapegoated women's Dear Man Affairs my mother understood as a hard cover
book that was neither poetry, fiction, biography or history in family or classroom
sense but blank pages as might be the understanding one has of the facts in light
of the truth discovered upon leaving the halls of the University you were groomed
for by your parents and their society as well as Justice now that Rhenquist(?) has
been dead about 4 out of the last 5 years of the war and administrations sworn
in by him. What is this candid candy coated bitterness like a spoonful of sugar
helps the medicine go down ? Well,to start Tondalayo had an interest with the
postings last November with a kiss on the cheek from her Marine son if I can
see to tell what is going on and with all that was last mentioned someone along
the line said real leaders don't keep score as though the basics of
finance and accounting for non-financial managers by the AMA didn't matter
TOO much since working capitol was part of strategic planning which for the entrepreneurial
business is more important than ever or you're going to end up
with a dead hero.So we controlled the corporate farm silos, subsistence farm
efforts for hospitals and sharecropping amongst those 30-40% that always
turn out to be wannabe' Yankee farmers, patriots and real statesman instead of politicians.
All my other groups said no catchup or organizing under one heading what might
be going on because of "specifics" involved in what now has become a society
full of turf wars and sibling or service rivalries for the limited FUNDS available
that are regulated by market forces commodity standards held to by owners
who administrate as absentee landlords. That is why I'm taking this opportunity to
see another effort cut to the quick though I'll try to do it according to TEAM law
and rules.Pages 1-5 of 487 recent Group Announcements let's say starting with

could think of is in regard to the neighborhood the passed 3 years I mentioned
The Sea Wolf by Jack London with Wolf Larson,"keep an ear out" and your
occasional John Van Damm movie contemporary generation crossing non-super
hero anti-climatic heroics.Eons Most Wanted "Celebrates" with pictures and
anime Easter and Spring while BelleStarr and Woodbehr are approaching an
on-line relationship which is near cuddles as James Beard and Julia Child were
PBS yet haute cuisine a Diva like Martha Stewart or Spitzer contagion by
example comes out of "Roxbury",NY.Google Earth I was going to point out
today as the Dalai Lama might have a different kind of different scholars
eye wear has nanamarcie whom I approached as a nana was a grandmother
when my mother was alive talked of Marcy avenue in Evanston when I was a
wee one I tried to explain to Minnesota Happy Purim celebrant and my oldest
brother's father's mother whom had a long time partner (so please stop
regurgitating my despicable "transparency") who lived first on Central then
went to Clearwater Florida. Now it is all called storytelling because on cross-
examination the mind can be tricked into knowing a memory it perceives.Either
the Sunday before Easter or Good Friday 1968 we flew out of O'Hare in a
blizzard,I think the former makes sense.I played golf with my dad at Tarpon
Springs, got burnt on my back and legs catching a Spanish mackerel in the
process of obtaining my own sardine bait, caught sea trout with old Mrs.Dugan
under the lights which had to be with live shrimp TONIGHT on the pier because
they ran with the tide and time was running out for Good Friday Dinner which
as lunch time Sunday Dinner being lunch time,Saturday was to size up before
leaving and we had church service at Episcopalian church with kneeling "board".
It was a fish fry that also included the flounder my brother accidently caught
off the bottom I had never cleaned before and banana bread,Key Lime Pie and
fresh squeezed orange juice in season. This is back when the Sox still had
Spring season in Sarasota,Al Lopez is a landscaper that ran around here last summer
and we flew South by going Northwest Orient Airlines. Here is where
the story should end when "Johnson declined to run after 'the Great Society'
started which turned into the Jefferson Airplane" and let's say PO4013 would like
to hear Ebony and Ivory by McCartney and Michael Jackson, annieoak can't get
music for avatar music motion sticker and iPod shuffle for "the Fullest Life"
by Marketing Gal is a minx that would go to Abbot House after a half way house, nursing
home or hospital stay and mend in a program like I pointed out about
Mellencamp's Jack and Diane or Susan the Wildcat 5 months ago.So the closer
or to finesse the finale is to go to page 487 of my group notices which was
291 days ago which had a Welcome from Bellestar for Ozziesou and mention of
a rare blood cancer by CritterAngel in 9/11 Responders in Truth Seekers.
jsw1952 is mentioned here but as this is my OWN "demarcation" this is pertinent
to what samoset had to say for EONS WRITER'S CLUB.

The Road Less Traveled

Hello Everyone!

There is something quite irresistable about the name of this group, 'Elsewhere in America'! It seems, among other things, to imply 'Off The Beaten Path' and that feeling is a key to the best parts of my life. I am not a crowd-follower in any sense. Oh, I appreciate people, especially people who go their own way, out-of-the mainstream, creative, imaginative people.

I live in New Mexico, a state which is considered by many to be "Elsewhere in America". We consciously chose NM, moving out here from New England after about 8 visits and we are very glad we did. It is a uniquely beautiful place to be!

Honesty, gentleness, openness, and sunshine are also important in my life, as are my husband, my son, my granddaughter, and my true friends!

I will not be a frequent correspondent but will check in from time to time.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Jack and Susan.

Now John Mellencamp wrote about Jack and Diane two American kids doing
the best that they can.And as it turned out Diane got discharged from
CLS 'cause John said,"She bet everything on her wedding ring
and ended up in shelter so let her have her felicity."
And there was a show on TV about Jack who was a LA cop and Susan
who was a Arizona Wildcat."Tonight's the night." by Neil Young you
shouldn't start out relationships on such a (?) basis.Well 22 years ago my mother had leukemia that was in remission and I had been discharged from the hospital. We decided to go to Arizona for Christmas with Rob and I knew it would not have snow.I got to eat oatmeal in the Arizona Inn
dining room where we stayed in Tucson while my mother and father just lingered.I swam laps,we went to the San Xavier Mission and Sonora Desert Museum. There were few coyotes on either side of the law then.I got to shop and see pricey Navajo rugs and that was the last time I got to go horseback riding.WATCH,I asked for an Appaloosa because of their temperment and we rode on sand so all was safe except I slowed him up at the back of the trail ride so I could kick him into a canter for a few hundred feet. Finally one night I made a request at the piano bar.
I sang;"Once upon a time there was a tavern where we used to sing and dance and play. Now my friends we're older but no wiser for in our hearts the dreams are still the same. Those were the days my friend we
thought they'd never end we'd sing and dance forever and a day. We'd
live the life we choose we'd fight and never lose those were the days oh yes those were the days.Lalalalala, lalalala, lala, lalalala, lalala, laalalalal,
My mom died soon after that but who said if wishes were horses beggars would ride.48th state out of the lower 48.

Soliders

I Have many views on the wars. All though I don't understand why, I do understand the reason our children try to protect our country. I have had 2 of my son's serve. One is still in Iraq. He has been in for 7 yrs now. I recently got lucky enough to go and see him off. I live in another part of the country which is hard. But me son was able to fly me to his house to say good bye. Before he left there were some ceramonies I got to attend. I wish every one would be able to see and hear the strangth and commitment of a lot of these soliders. They do feel that they are protecting our right to a free country.War is ugly and those that have lost there lives, did so, so we can live better. I grew up with my dad from Parle Harbor, friends in Nam, and now my son in Iraq. We have all lost some one to war. But we can be the strong hold for all these kids. God Bless America. Stand strong and proud. You, who have served and you who are with soilders. This mom sheds a tear for all. Happy Veterans Day

I like your group!

I live in Florida after having lived most of my life in the northeast (NYS). What is important to me are the "F's": family, friends, faith and fun. Not necessarily in that order. I am just joining up so I'll be back! Kathy a/k/a Tondalayo

You are special today

Happy Birthday! Your blog is so poignant. It makes me choke up a little, and think about all the thoughtful things my mom did to make us feel special and loved.

Summer in Rural Washington State

I know that those kids had the best summer ever. Everyday I spent outside, I heard them rather than saw them. Clear across the field, a row of 10-foot tall sunflowers block the back yard view. I know there is a trampoline outback. I see the tops of their heads bobbing up and down, up and down. Squealing, laughter, happy kid sounds, water sprays, shady lazy fun filled days. All summer long those kids have quietly, secluded in their environment, yet loudly built a memory. When they are in their fifties, will they remember that summer they played with their sibling’s day in and day out in the back yard. Will they have fond memories of the trampoline, or squirting one another with the hose, of their best friend Fido chasing them around the yard. Will they remember the summer the field in front of their house caught fire on the forth of July from the neighborhood fireworks. Will they remember the dusty gravel road leading up to their home, how they raced one another on their bikes for hours upon hours. Or when the neighborhood bully chased them up the drive, peddling as fast as their little legs could take them back into their safe haven, the back yard.

Will they remember all of this as well as I will?

What matters in my world? Silky breezes stirring the silvery poplar outside my 'writing window' on a hot (80 degree) Northwest day. Brisk, clean, autumn air and the brilliant kleidoscope of colors it brings. First snowfalls. The smell of the Harbor after the rain rushes through. My husband telling me "you're hot"--even after 39 years of a nearly normal marriage. Sofia (granddaugther) saying "no" to her mommy, who used to say "no" to me. Gabriel (grandson) and Chloe (granddaughter) saying "grandma". Conrad (grandson) running full force into my arms--like his father did. And, Payton's (new babie girl) full cheeks and glorious infant smile. My kids when they say, "Thanks for being you, Ma."
