RETIREMENT LIFE

How we spend our time, our money, and our lives now
that we are retired. What are the best sources for in-
formation on investing,social security,health, etc.
Now that I don't have to impress anybody I carry the
gold card-from the Goodwill store. What about your
self?

Retirement Satisfaction.

I'm writing a book on retirement satisfaction. Would you take 10 minutes to complete the following survey? (I promise there is no hidden agenda, i.e., I'm trying to sell you anything.)
view link

In addition, I have the following questions, I'd like answered.

What are the primary goals for people retiring today?

What are the obstacles people face during the retirement transition?

What are the most common frustrations people face?

What are the 5 most difficult challenges facing new retirees?

What are the 5 top questions new retirees are asking that they are unable to find answers to?

What are 5 dreams or goals new retirees want for retirement?

What are the biggest mistakes you see new retirees making?

Thank you for taking the time to help.

Chocolate-covered Bacon

I've been having some fun with my regular blog, Retired and Restless, and posted a little humor. Chocolate-covered bacon may not have much to do with aging gracefully, but certainly suggests that we can eat our dessert first!

Here are a couple of other humorous posts that DO relate to aging (gracefully or not):

July 4th Independence for ALL Ages

INDEPENDENCE is certainly a concept that goes beyond a holiday, a day off from work, a day for picnics and parades and fireworks.

Besides the fact that July 4th represents our country’s “birth,” our severance from ”Mother England, and the oppressive nature of that colonial relationship, INDEPENDENCE represents for each and every one of the citizens of this country the FREEDOMs and RIGHTs that we guaranteed ourselves by Constitutional Amendments that were ratified by the several states as part of the agreement to accept the new Constitution drafted by the Convention in Philadelphia back in 1787-88.

Those FREEDOMs and RIGHTs are put to the test DAILY when it comes to Aging Americans and their LIFESTYLES. What expectations do you have of a decent retirement, of a decent standard of living, of a decent level of medical care, of a decent quality of life, of a decent dignity in death, and a decent burial?

I believe it is our continuing responsibility as active older Americans to remind this generation, and the next, and the one coming after that, of the very real obligations they carry toward their elders and that we are to be honored, not endured; that we are a blessing to them, not a burden.

I say it is Our responsibility because we, as active older Americans still have a voice, and we can demand to be heard. I’ve heard that one out of every four voters (people who actually VOTE) are members of AARP. There is tremendous strength in those numbers, and we have the power to positively affect the way we (and our descendents) are treated and cared for in America for decades to come. Let’s be united. Let’s ensure that our own INDEPENDENCE is respected and guaranteed.

Anyone live at the Villages, Fla?

I just recently took a few days and visited the Villages in Florida. I thought it was heaven found! Does anyone on this site live there now? If so I would like to know the scoop - is it really as much fun as I think it is?

Retirement Fear FOUR - Abandonment

Fear of Abandonment certainly is real, even for dogs. But how normal is it for a recent retiree to experience such fears? Is it my nature to look for the worst possible outcomes and then sit in my misery and imagine horrible things? What a waste of life that would be. No. I think I have only a “moderate” concern about abandonment, mostly fueled by stories I hear or read about when older folks are left to fend for themselves.

In some cultures, elders are revered and taken care of. I’ve mentioned this before. I’ve also read about cultures where the aged are abandoned once they become a burden on the family or tribe. Given some water and food, and perhaps a weapon, the aged body is left under a shade tree to eventually die. This sounds a bit like the animal kingdom, (less the weapon) and therefore could be considered within the natural order of life…the circle of life.

We can fight or we can surrender. Both terms have many meanings and we interpret the concepts of ”fighting” and “surrendering” as we choose.

I choose to fight for my rights to fair treatment and a decent standard of living. I will also surrender to the Almighty and accept my fate when my time comes.

What I will not accept is the verdict of others who take it upon themselves to decide when I should be put out to pasture. As long as my MIND is sound, I will make my own decisions, thank you very much.

Gain strength and maintain your independence. Hold tight to your beliefs. Stand by your family and friends, but demand your rightful place in society.

Hi and bye

This looked like a great group so I joined. Then I noticed that out of 200+ members the posts are few and far between. Too bad. This is certainly a good topic and one I'd like to discuss.

Signing out.

Need a little help from my friends

Hey all,

I'm a retired and ex-insurance agent who specialized in long term care insurance. I wrote a book and have just put it online but I don't have any testimonials for my product. I'm looking for a couple of lab rats - but ya gotta want to know about long term care insurance and if it might be a good retirement strategy. In exchange for your interest I'll give you a copy of the read courtesy of me, but you have to promise to give me a testimonial. I'm looking for about 5 people for this.

I've got a book plus videos but really need some reviews of my book.

I'd really like to help boomers understand their retirement planning with this guide. As an ex-agent I talk about some of the dangers of working with insurance companies.

Anyway, let me know if you want to look at it and you can visit my site by visiting www.longtermcareinsurancesecrets.com

Remember, this is a free offer in exchange for your help with my testimonials.

Thanks, Lisa the Nevada Gal

Would U consider paid volunteer work?

There is so much media these days about older adults volunteering in retirement. I work in a nonprofit that is trying to create a program model that connects older adults to paid volunteer opportunities in nonprofits that can use skills and experience. Is this an attractive idea to you? Why or why not? And if you did something like this what would your concerns be?
