GROUP QUESTIONS

These issues will come up eventually, so I'd like to start this post/survey now. I'll put it as a link in the announcement so you can always find it.

QUESTION 1: Do you want to allow Men and/or Non Veterans to join and participate in this group?

QUESTION 2: What do you consider to be an "objectionable" post?

This will help us to establish what's acceptable here and what's not, so your thoughts and opinions are very important!

Hi, I would like to keep this as a women vets group only as it gives us a focus and a common ground. I hope we do not fight, but I think name calling and flaming should not be allowed. I think it is ok to disagree but if someone is attacking another poster I would find that objectionable. I was in a group out of eons that it turned to a free for all of some posters calling other posters bad names and using personal info they had shared against them. I left, but I left the good posters behind too, which was sad for me. I know there will be times not every group mbrs agrees and that is ok, but not to attack another if they don't agree with you. Make sense? Sure hope so, it is three am..LOL. Good questions! LL

THIS IS STANDARD FOR ANY GROUP:

THERES ALREADY A POLICY ON SOME THINGS BASED ON THE EONS TERMS OF UNDERSTANDING (TOU) THAT WE ALL AGREED TO WHEN WE JOINED.

Anything here, which violates the eons Terms of Understanding (TOU) will be dealt with mercilessly.

The rest is up to the group! We need to hear from everyone!

The TOU is why eons is so delightful compared to alt.usenet, where you were. Anything can get said on usenet. There are absolutely no controls that work.

I still go to several groups there, but killfile all the trolls and spammers, so I don't even see their messages. I've just been too lazy to update my newsreader, and I have a crush on Rod Speed.

Rod Speed is an infamous usenet troll. Some think that he is actually several people. He's hilarious.

I would lijke to keep this for just us women. I think our experiences are far more different than theirs. Especially for those of us who were in when the WAF and WAC's were separate. There are plenty of other coed groups to join regarding the military.

Great input! Just to tally so far: We now have 3 votes against men joining.

Well ,I think it should for women VETS also. They are lots of other groups for men and women. I feel that we need to be a Vet or current military group. I know they are alot of Vet men out there and I am friends with some of them. I kind of hate to leave them out,but then the name would have to change to Veterans: Sisters and Brothers By Choice. But for sure only Veterans allowed. It should be in their profile that they were in the military before accepting them into the group.

I agree with women only. Men seem to have a lot of groups etc and they may not have some of the same issues we do. As far as only allowing women who put their information on their profile, I don't think so. I have little information on my profile on purpose. I am leary about putting "everything" out there for who knows who to read! It shouldn't take much to figure out if someone was in the service or not if they post. Also, I know that this group is supposed to be for those over 50, but what if there is a young woman who is thinking about enlisting and she wants to pick our brains? I think we need to be out there for those that are thinking about enlisting or who are currently in the service.
I don't want to start something, but you asked for my opinion.....

I count 6 in favor of men only. That's a simple majority.

So, If any men try to join, any moderator or me can send a POLITE message that it's a women only group! There have been NO restrictions against having gender restricted groups at eons, so we're fine.

I'd love to keep this thread going. This is a good discussion to have! I will give my vote and opinion only when the overwhelming majority have voted. (I think you know what it is...!)LOL.

I would vote for sisters only - there are some experiences, etc. that I would rather have women only weigh in on.

I vote women only -- we have vet issues that are different than the guys so I would prefer to discuss the issues with my fellow women vets.
